Native Bird Feeders
About sparrows at my bird feeder?
I live in Missouri where the conservation department has indicated that we have an overabundance of sparrows threatning the native birds. I am going to switch feed to striped sunflower seeds. I know what type of birds it will attract, but don't know if it will deter the sparrows. Any comments?
I am sure they are talking about House Sparrow SPECIFICALLY, not ALL sparrows. There are plenty of native sparrows as well and many of them are attracted to the same foods that House Sparrows like, so it is a little hard to ONLY feed native birds. House Sparrow are not very picky so hard to deter them. You can put up a hummingbird feeder, or a suet feeder that will not entice House Sparrows.
