my goffin needs some better toys...?
last year i posted a question about which cockatoo/parrot to adopt. i recieved mostly great responses, but one that told me i was crazy to think that my parrot would NOT love only one person in my house. i am so blessed to have "O'Reilly", he is an amazing bird with lots of love to give, if you have patience and love to give back. So, for those of you who thought I was wrong, i have proved you wrong, he loves all the members of my household, even my poms and kids!! my question is....we are going through toys like crazy..either through boredom or absolute destruction.....homemade toys? suggestions....this is getting expensive to keep up with his habits. we have built him areas with pvc pipe and added baby toys and boxes and so forth. BUT i need some really interesting ideas for him!
I alos have a Goffin, amongst other Cockatoos...my lil guy is terrific indeed! But definitely a little juvenile delinquent...always curious & never_ending energy! He loves all kinds of stuff...luckily I have learned that many household regulars have come in handy for his entertainment. I offer him plastic caps of all different varieties...detergent caps come in various colors, medicine caps, juice caps & rings from water bottles, yogurt containers, popsicile sticks[I buy a box of 1000 at the hobby/craft stores...he loves pine wreaths & baskets, as well as baby toys & doggie toys too! For treats I give sweet potato chips that are organic freeze dried offered thru various pet stores. Organic popcorn is another favorite. I buy solid pine letters & designs from craft store clearances as well as grape vine balls & wreaths which I stuff with various nuts & little goodies he likes which encorages foraging. Pay attention to all the plastic tops from items your family uses daily/weekly etc....you would be surprised at how many we throw away & our feathered ones would enjoy them! Our feathered ones have a never_ending energy to chew & explore...baby wood blocks & safe toys are great as well as poker chips & other solid plastics.... I make little foraging units out of yogurt containers & med bottles too....they like wine corks by the way! I hope I have helped you with some ideas...Take care!
