Keeping a bird outside?
Long story short: we seem to have ended up with a Jandaya Conure, a beautiful little bird, who's very pleasant and friendly. The problem is, there's no way we want to have a caged bird inside the house. Is it reasonable to keep him in a cage outside on our terrace? Would it be too cold for him?
We're in Spain, so night time temperatures range from about 20-30 C in summer to 2-10 C in winter.
I'd be very grateful for any answers!!
Thanks for the quick answers. The long story that I cut short is that he's appeared on our terrace (a big balcony, so no risk from other animals). Now, we're putting up signs and everything to see if someone will claim him, I'm just planning ahead in case no one wants him.
He slept outside last night (without a cage) and is clearly very tame. But the winter night-time temperatures are clearly a problem. I don't really think we've got room for him in te apartment, unfortunately.
yes, in winter it will be too cold - he will die. put him in the garage or laundry with a cloth over his cage to keep some heat in or bring him inside at night.
in summer if you keep him outside, you will need to cover his cage at night with something very light - otherwise you will have owls trying to grab at him thru the bars of his cage - I lost two budgies this way.
